RIVERVIEW, Mich - Liquid Football (4-2-3) tied Inter Detroit (4-5-1) 3-3 Wednesday night at Gabriel Richard Catholic High School in a high-intensity back-and-forth match.
In the run-up to the game against Liquid, Inter had played four games in 12 days. The most recent was when Inter beat the United Stars Academy in the NISA Independent Cup Semi-Final match. Along the way, in their Independent Cup run, they won against the Michigan Stars pro team. However, in their latest MWPL game, they lost to last place, Ypsi Yetis.
Meanwhile, Liquid Football is coming off a comeback win against Futsal Factory Academy. Liquid were down 2-1 at the half. After conceding a third early in the second half, Liquid scored three unanswered goals in the last ten minutes of the match to win 4-3.
As the Liquid-Inter game kicked off, the action started right away. Inter Detroit scored the first goal after they were awarded a penalty in the 6th minute of the game and converted it to 1-0.
Six minutes later, in the 12th minute, Atou Dia scored on a diving header on the cross from Waseem Muthana to tie it up.
Liquid and Inter exchanged offensive opportunities until the 35th minute when Inter retook the lead. An Inter attacker dribbled the ball down to the end line and cut it back to a player in the middle, who slid to get a touch on the ball and deflected it into the back of the net. 2-1 Inter.
In the 57th minute, Liquid equalized for the second time. Liquid was awarded a penalty kick of their own, and Dehane Gnonrou converted it to make it 2-2.
In the 61st, Liquid player George Chomakov, who was on the bench injured, was given a red card for dissent. Soon after, Liquid took the lead with a great build-up ending with a through ball to Dehane Gnonrou, who finished it far post to make it 3-2 Liquid.
Inter equalized right back a few minutes later with a goal almost identical to their second. An Inter player dribbled down to the end line and passed it back to a player wide-open around the penalty spot. He didn’t make a mistake and placed it inside the post and into the back of the net. 3-3.
Soon after, owner and coach Javi Bautista was also given a red card for arguing a call against center midfielder Kellen Landefeld. Landefeld received a red card after tripping an Inter player on a breakaway.
Liquid put on the pressure late in the game, with multiple chances, but could not convert. When the final whistle blew, the final score was 3-3.
Liquid’s next and last game of the season is on Saturday, July 20, at 7 p.m. at Gabriel Richard Catholic High School. Tickets are on sale now.
