Liquid Football vs Struik Rovers Match Preview

Liquid Football (3-2-1) is coming off a 1-0 win against the Michigan Jaguars. They want to stay hot against the struggling Holland Rovers (1-3-0), who are second to last in the Great Lakes West division.

Liquid Football has a quick turnaround as they played their last game on Thursday. Despite a 30-minute lightning delay and rain, they came out on top with a moment of brilliance and some luck. A near-post finish from Bosh Tanyi put Liquid Football up late. The Jags rallied. A shot in stoppage time bounced down off the crossbar but out and was cleared off the line, and Liquid Football escaped with three points.

Holland Rovers’ last game was Wednesday against the Great Lakes West division-leading West Michigan Bearings. Holland Rovers lost 7-0 at home.

Holland Rovers is a fellow 2023 expansion team. Last year they played in the West Shore Soccer League. They have youth teams who play in the Grand Valley Soccer Association and Michigan State Premier Soccer League. The men’s team’s nickname is the Struikrovers. Struikrover is a bandit or highwayman. The team was originally started as a bunch of local players coming together to play indoor soccer. The team won many games, so they decided to take the team to the next level.

The Struikrovers have a couple of players who have played in college. The players who did play in college played D-III or community college. The Struikrovers are basically a Holland area high school all-star team.

Players to watch

Holland Rovers

Connor Fowler- Fowler played for Hope but is now the assistant coach. He is the top goal scorer for the Struikrovers, with a hat trick in their first game of the season.

Ethan Vollstedt- Vollstedt plays midfield for Alma. He started six out of nine games and played in eight.

Liquid Football

Bosh Tanyi Tanyi is a game-changing player signed by Liquid Football two games ago from Detroit City FC. He was the catalyst behind both game-winning goals in the past two games. His movement all around the field confuses defenders, and his penetrating runs, skills on the ball, and finishing are real problems for defenders.

Ali Alhalmi - Alhalmi had a great game on Thursday. Only a few people got past him. He won almost every header that came his way. He was a lockdown defender. He and other defenders, Jaston Workman, Ryan Messick, and Wail Algahim, contributed to keeping a clean sheet.

Liquid Football takes on the Holland Struikrovers Saturday, June 17th, at Macatawa Bay Middle School in Holland, MI. Kick-off is at 1 p.m.
