Liquid Football vs Livonia City FC Match Preview

After beating Cedars FC last week, Liquid Football is at the top of the table in the Great Lakes East, at least for now. This week they face another formidable opponent in a must-win game if they want to keep pace with Inter Detroit. This week Liquid Football plays well-established club Livonia City FC.

LCFC fields teams not only in the MWPL but also in the MPSL, UWS, and MUSL. LCFC started in the MPSL, where they won the open division in their first year. A few years later, they made the jump to the MWPL. Currently, they are tied for third in the Great Lakes West conference of the MWPL with 19 points.

Livonia City beat the Holland Rovers 3-0 in their last game. Which were crucial points in a wide-open Great Lakes West division. In Liquid Footballs’ previous game, they beat Cedars FC 4-2, with all four goals scored by Waseem Muthana.

The first goal came n the 12th minute after Muthana received a through ball and broke into space. He shot it, and the ball skipped between the keeper’s legs and into the back of the net. Ten minutes later, Cedars responded with their goal off a set piece. Keeper Esmail Haidan parried the shot away, but the rebound was gathered by Cedars. It was crossed back in and found another Cedars player who tapped it in to tie it up at 1-1. At the end of the half, Muthana received another great ball, beat two defenders on the dribble, and slotted it past the keeper to make it 2-1 going into halftime. Just two minutes after halftime, Cedars equalized. Cedars took a short corner; the cross came in and fell to a Cedars player, and he smashed it past Haidan to make it 2-2.

Just as Liquid Football was starting to think they were out of the title race with a tie with Cedars, they won a free kick on the edge of the box in the 87th minute. Muthana stepped up and scored to make it 3-2. Cedars was in all-out attack mode now, but Muthana wasn’t done. Cyrus Saydee was running down the wing with the ball. He laid it off to Muthana, who beat three defenders before finessing the ball off the post and into the back of the net, making it 4-2 and shooting Liquid Football into first place for the first time all season.

Coming into this game, Thundercats tied Tulip City Saturday night, which clinched a top-two spot for Liquid Football in the standings. However, Liquid Football needs to win the rest of their games, and they need Inter Detroit to drop points in one of their last three games. Livonia City they are tied for 3rd place and are only back by seven points from first place with a game at hand. Every game is a must-win, and they need a lot of help to get back in the title race. So for both of these teams, it is a massive game.

Liquid Football will be without Ali Alhalmi and Wisam Muthana due to yellow card accumulation and Beni Tanyi; However, on a positive note, they get Bosh Tanyi back this week, who is a game-changing striker.
