Liquid Football Pulls Off the Dramatic Comeback

DEXTER, Mich-- Liquid Football (4-2-2), in comeback fashion, beat Futsal Factory Academy (2-6-2) 4-3 at Dexter High School Saturday night.

Liquid Football has had a quick turnaround since their last game. On Tuesday, they had to play a make-up game against the Michigan Stars, losing 3-1. At the same time, Futsal Factory has had a two-week break between games due to the 4th of July. Their previous game was a loss to Cedars 4-2.

Despite being knocked out of the title race with the loss to the Stars, Liquid Football's determination remains unwavering. With three games left, they are still aiming for victory. This game marked the end of the season for Futsal Factory Academy, who, after a challenging season, were eager to finish on a high note.

As the game kicked off on a hot Saturday night in Dexter, a penalty was called on Liquid Football in the 4th minute. In only his start with the club, Liquid keeper Sean Nagar made the save to keep the game scoreless.

The majority of the game was played in the middle of the field. It was a battle for possession. However, Futsal Factory started to take control of their game late in the first half. In the 28th minute, Futsal Factory had their first significant chance after the penalty. Liquid’s defense was out of sorts, and Futsal Factory worked it around to a wide-open player whose shot was saved off the line by Sef Baseski.

Their momentum was building. Just ten minutes later, Futsal Factory opened the scoring. A cross came into the box and found Nick Russo, who hit the ball out of the air and into the back of the net to make it 1-0 Futsal Factory.

Just two minutes later, Futsal Factory struck again. Nick Ross received the ball on the outside, cut inside, shot it, and blasted it past the Liquid keeper to make it 2-0 Futsal Factory.

Less than a minute later, in the 43rd minute, Liquid pulled one back. Liquid Football earned a corner kick. The cross fell to Xavier Walser, who headed it down to himself and powered it in with a shot from close range. 2-1 Futsal Factory. Despite a flurry of chances from Liquid, that would be the halftime score.

After halftime, Futsal Factory scored just two minutes into the second half. A good spell of possession from Futsal Factory led to a low, driven cross across the box that found Nick Ross at the far post, who smashed it into the net. 3-1 Futsal Factory.

Then, suddenly, there was some hope for Liquid when they got a penalty of their own. In the 78th minute, Dehane Gnonrou was taken down in the box. Gnonrou stepped up and converted the penalty, narrowly beating the Futsal Factory keeper to make it 3-2.

Two minutes later, Liquid Football equalized. A sliding cross by Niso Boukhatmi came right to Atou Dia, who placed it into the back of the net to tie it up with ten minutes to go.

In the 82nd minute, just two minutes after Liquid tied the game, they took the lead. A great passage of play finds Boukhatmi. He cut inside, shot it low towards the far post, and it trickled in to make it 4-3 Liquid Football. Liquid survived the last few minutes plus four minutes of stoppage for the comeback victory.

The victory brings their record to 4-2-2. Liquid has another quick turnaround as they play Inter Detroit on Wednesday, July 17th, at Gabriel Richard High School. Tickets are on sale now.
