Liquid Football 2024 Tryout Preview

The 2024 season is right around the corner. Liquid Football has announced the date for their preseason open tryout, which will be held on March 17th at Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Last season, tryout spots sold out, and over 60 people came to St. Joe’s Sports Dome at Schoolcraft College to try out for Liquid Football’s inaugural season. Liquid Football signed a total of 12 players from the 2023 tryout, with six players joining the matchday squad and another six being offered a summer training opportunity after a successful tryout.

Last year, in its inaugural season, Liquid Football finished with a record of 8-2-2, ending its season on a nine-game unbeaten streak but coming up short by two points to finish second in their conference. The team is looking to build upon the success of its first season and has already started announcing a list of players that will be retained for this upcoming season.

Liquid Football competes in the Midwest Premier League, the 5th tier of the US soccer pyramid. The league is formed by clubs throughout the entire Midwest region of the United States. The expanding league is currently broken down into four conferences: the Gateway, the Heartland, the Great Lakes East, and the Great Lakes West. Liquid Football completed its 2023 season in the Great Lakes East conference, which included in-conference matches against Metro Detroit area teams, out-of-conference league games in farther regions, and a friendly game against USL2 side Fort Wayne FC in Indiana.

Liquid Football is coached by founder Javi Bautista. Bautista has a long resume of coaching and playing experience, which includes playing and coaching for current USL Championship side Detroit City FC. He currently also coaches with the Michigan Hawks. Bautista and co-founder George Chomakov named Liquid Football after a style of play that showcases a team’s ability to move together in an organized and fluid manner. The motto of Liquid Football is “#playerbuilt”, which outlines the core value of providing the best experience possible for all its players. Liquid Football is player-focused, with the on-field product taking the front seat.
