Coming off a much-needed bye, Liquid Football’s (2-1-2) next match is against Troy United (4-2-0) at home on Saturday night.
Liquid Football’s last match was at Cedars, where they won 2-1 with two headers from Atou Dia. The win gave Cedars their first loss of the season.
Troy United is coming off a big win last week against Livonia City, in which they won 3-2. After being down 2-0 at the half, Troy United came storming back to win on an own goal in the 86’.
Since Thundercats, Inter Detroit, and Michigan Stars have all dropped points in recent weeks, the title race has been blown wide open and is now up for grabs. If either Liquid or Troy United wins out, they have a good chance of winning the league. Liquid has games against Inter Detroit and Michigan Stars later in the season, while Troy United plays Michigan Stars, Inter, and Cedars to end the season. Liquid has played the fewest games of any team in their conference and is only four points back of most teams in the league, so they have more points out there to win than other teams.
Liquid is starting to come together at the right time.
The bye week could not have come at a better time. It gave injured players time to heal and a team-bonding cookout.
Last season, Liquid Football and Troy United were new expansion teams to the league. Liquid played in their first game ever at The Hawk in Farmington Hills, and they came away with the win 3-1, thanks to a rocket goal from 30 yards out from Najeeb Alrebat and a brace from Waseem Muthana.
Liquid Football will play Troy United on Saturday, June 29, at 7 p.m. at Gabriel Richard Catholic High School in Riverview.
