—the last game of the season. What a year for Liquid! For their final home game, Liquid (4-2-3) will play Livonia City (2-6-1).
Livonia has had a tough season this season. Because of conference realignment, they moved from the Great Lakes West to the loaded Great Lakes East conference. Livonia City, who used to be one of the good teams in their conference, suddenly found itself in the chaos of the Great Lakes East, where anybody can beat anybody.
Last season, Liquid played a cross-conference game against Livonia City in a crucial match with title race implications. Liquid needed to win to stay in the hunt, and Livonia needed the win and some help from around the league. The game ended in a 2-2 tie in a high-flying back-and-forth affair at Liggett University School in Grosse Pointe Woods. Both teams were knocked out of title contention. Liquid secured second place.
Liquid will be a little short-handed coming into Saturday's game. They will be without head coach Javi Bautista, George Chomakov, and Kellen Landefeld, serving their one-game suspensions for earning red cards in the game against Inter Detroit on Wednesday.
They will also be without Mujeeb Nashal and Dylan Wismont, critical players in the Liquid lineup. Liquid will likely need some players to play out of position for this game. They have also registered their Head of Communications, Jimmy Halmhuber, as an extra body.
Meanwhile, reports from the Livonia City camp are similar. They will also not have many subs to work with for the game. One player of note they will be missing will be their starting keeper, who received a red card in their previous game and will be serving his one-game suspension
Liquid has not had much rest between their recent games, while Livonia has had a whole week's rest since their last match.
Last week, Livonia City played Thundercats. Livonia put up a good fight against the team that had been in first place for most of the season, but the Thundercats scored the winner in the 88th minute to win 3-2.
Liquid Football hosts Livonia City FC in the last game of the season at Gabriel Richard Catholic High School in Riverview on Saturday July 20 at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and are five dollars at the gate.
